James Panetta says he plans to run for Congress — some day

Leon Panetta’s son, James Panetta, confirmed to the Carmel Pine Cone earlier this week that he will run for Congress when Sam Farr (D-Carmel) decides to retire as the representative of the California’s 20th Congressional District.

Leon Panetta’s son, James Panetta, confirmed to the Carmel Pine Cone earlier this week that he will run for Congress when Sam Farr (D-Carmel) decides to retire as the representative of the California’s 20th Congressional District.

The elder Panetta most recently served the Obama Administration as the United States Secretary of Defense from 2011-2013 and as Director of the Central Intelligence  for the first two years of the term. He was President Clinton’s Chief of Staff from 1994-97. He served nine terms in Congress, representing the Monterey Bay beginning in 1976.

James Panetta, 43, is a lawyer and a decorated Naval intelligence officer.
