Martha MacCallum is taking a break from her top-rated show, “The Story,” on Fox News in what network insiders say is a much-needed vacation.
“The Story” will be hosted by other Fox News personalities in MacCallum’s absence, according to a network source familiar with the plans.
MacCallum’s last day on air before her break was Friday, and she is expected to return to the show in mid-September.
The timing of MacCallum’s break comes as Fox News is facing intense scrutiny over its handling of sexual harassment allegations against former CEO Roger Ailes and top host Bill O’Reilly.
Martha MacCallum’s career
MacCallum joined Fox News Channel (FNC) in 2004. She currently serves as the co-anchor of America’s Newsroom alongside Bill Hemmer (weekdays 9-11am/ET). She is also the host of The Story with Martha MacCallum (weeknights 7pm/ET).
Prior to joining FNC, MacCallum was with NBC, where she served as an anchor on CNBC’s Morning Call with Martha MacCallum and Ted David (2002-2004) as well as for NBC affiliate WPIX-TV in New York, where she was a reporter and weekend anchor (1997-2002).
MacCallum began her career in 1991 as a business news correspondent for Wall Street Journal Report and continued on to anchor various business news programs for both CNN and CNBC.
The reason for her break
Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum is taking a break from the network, a Fox News spokesperson confirmed to HuffPost on Tuesday.
According to Mediaite, which first reported the news, MacCallum will return to her show The Story in September. While she’s away, Bret Baier will fill in for her.
The reason for MacCallum’s break was not immediately clear, but it comes as Fox News is undergoing several changes in its prime-time lineup. The network announced last week that Sean Hannity would move to 9 p.m. ET, while Laura Ingraham would take his 10 p.m. slot. Tucker Carlson will remain at 8 p.m
How long the break will be
Fox News is taking a break from one of their most popular shows, The Story with Martha MacCallum. The show will be off the air for two weeks as MacCallum takes her vacation.
This is not the first time that The Story has taken a break. The show was also off the air for two weeks in August of 2018. during that time, MacCallum took her annual summer break.
MacCallum is not the only Fox News host who is currently on vacation. Sean Hannity is also on vacation and his show, Hannity, will be off the air for the next week.
