History of 1440 News
March 12, 2006, is the day that 1440 News was born. The brain-child of Joe and Joan Lore, 1440 News is the only independently-owned news station in town. From its inception, 1440 News has been a pillar of the community, winning awards for its news coverage and community involvement.
Previous owners and operators
1440 News is a radio station that is licensed to serve the community of Toronto, Canada. The station is owned by Rogers Communications and operated by Corus Entertainment.
The station originally began broadcasting in 1947 as CFRB-AM. In 1999, the station was acquired by Telemedia, which was in turn acquired by Standard Broadcasting in 2002. In 2007, Standard Broadcasting was acquired by Astral Media, who sold the station to Rogers Communications in 2013.

1440 News is currently owned by Entercom. The company is based in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, and was founded in 1968. Entercom is the second-largest radio broadcasting company in the United States, behind only iHeartMedia.
iHeartMedia is an American mass media corporation headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. As a result of this merger, Clear Channel Communications, Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary of CC Media Holdings, Inc. On September 16, 2014, Cumulus Media Inc. and CC Media Holdings, Inc. announced a definitive merger agreement in which Cumulus Media would purchase all outstanding shares of CC Media Holdings (including Clear Channel Outdoor) for a total enterprise value of about $17.4 billion.
