Time Warner, which also owns HBO and Warner Bros., purchased CNN in 1996 for $7.5 billion. Time Warner then merged with AOL in 2001 to become AOL Time Warner. In 2006, AOL Time Warner was renamed Time Warner Inc., and CNN remains one of its flagship properties.
Jeff Zucker is the President of CNN
Jeff Zucker is the President of CNN Worldwide, a position he has held since 2013. He is also the Executive Vice President of Comcast Corporation. Prior to joining CNN, Zucker was the President and CEO of NBC Universal.
Zucker began his career in broadcast news at NBC, where he rose through the ranks to become the Executive Producer of the Today Show. He then served as the NBC Universal’s Entertainment, News & Sports Chairman before being named President and CEO in 2007.
Under Zucker’s leadership, CNN has been restored to its rightful place as the most trusted name in news. He has overseen CNN’s coverage of major news events including 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the 2008 Presidential Election, and more recently, the 2016 Presidential Election. Under Zucker’s guidance, CNN has also launched several new shows including Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Mike Rowe’s Somebody’s Gotta Do It, and United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell.
